What we'd like to see for cover art

We are looking for high-quality art with heroic characters - male or female - striding off into the sunset or looking out over a barren landscape. We accept battle scenes, but the focus should be on a main character doing something larger than life, not just a bunch of warriors with weapons.

We've provided some links to give you a few ideas of what sort of art we'd like to see. Please don't try to copy any of these, however.

We're interested in both black and white line art as well as full color renditions.

We prefer art that is based on stories previously published in one of our issues, but we will consider any art that fits the theme of the magazine.

What we'd like to see for story illustrations

We are looking for illustrations for stories from past issues. Please make sure you read the story for before submitting your art.If the editoral team feels it doesn't fit the story, it will not be accepted.

We are looking for both black and white, as well as full color illustrations for stories.

Sizes

Image size should be a minimum of 600 pixels wide by 600 pixles tall and 300dpi. There is no maximum and larger images are prefered. Images that are large enough to print may be used on products in the Flashing Swords online stores.

What we are buying

We are buying the perpetual, non-exclusive right to publish the image on our website, on products in our online stores and on any printed material which might be produced. What this means is that if we accept a piece of art, we own the right to use it forever as long as that use is related to the Flashing Swords Magazine in some way. The artist retains the right to sell it to others or use it for other purposes, but understands that we will not remove it from our website or online stores or change any printed material it may appear on.

Payment

We negotiate payment with each artist individually, based on his or her terms and any special use we may have for the piece of art in question. Once a piece of art is accepted for publication, we will contact the artist to discuss payment and in no case will we publish a piece of art before the terms are agreed on. Payment will be made before publication when possible, but no later than 30 days after publication.
